Colic & Chiropractic

Colic presents as a constantly irritable baby, usually beginning during the first two to three weeks following birth and continuing up to three months of age or even longer. Infantile colic is the name given to persistent and most often violent crying for no apparent reason in otherwise healthy and thriving infants. The clinical description is defined as violent crying for three hours per day, three days per week for at least three weeks, with resolution by the age of four months.

The cause may include gas, lactose intolerance, food allergies, constipation or structural weakness within the infant’s stomach/diaphragm area. Any of these common causes may be attributable to nerve dysfunction and joint or vertebral subluxations. This can result in poor communication between the brain and digestive organs.

Chiropractic adjustments for the correction of vertebral subluxations (nerve dysfunction) have long been acknowledged as an excellent therapeutic tool for infantile colic. In fact, Chiropractic has been shown to have a 94% success rate with colic. Adjustments along with dietary modification, can relieve the infant from distress and remove stress from the household and improve the sleep of the infant and parents.

Healthy babies-free of nerve irritation-are happier babies.
